PRESENCE in South Africa

EarthCollective is to facilitate North-South research collaboration with the approval of the PRESENCE* project.

PRESENCE aims to address the research gaps and capacity needed to effectively restore degraded landscapes whilst supporting poverty alleviation and rural livelihoods within South Africa’s unique subtropical thicket biome.

The project will bring together partners from the Netherlands and South Africa such as Wageningen University & Research Centre (WUR), Rhodes University, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry of the South African Government.

PRESENCE will launch its ‘seed phase’ during 2007 in determining the key knowledge gaps and research priorities. An expanded project proposal – including key research questions and strategy – will be finalised after the partners workshop in South Africa in November 2007.
