Volunteer position with a South African NPO/NGO: assisting with the coordination of a Learning Village which hosts researchers working towards the restoration of degraded lands and conservation of natural resources across the Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve, South Africa.

Requirement: dynamism, flexibility, organized and good social skills.

Proposed period: from June 2011, for a period of 6 months – 1 year.

Tasks: Manage the facilities at the PRESENCE Learning Village, assist with field trip logistics, vehicle maintenance and support events at the Learning Village lapa.

Over the last 3 years the PRESENCE Learning Village has been developing into a hub of knowledge for all the partners falling under the PRESENCE Network.

Consisting of researcher’s accommodation, offices, gardens and a thatch roofed lapa, the Learning Village hosts researchers and events supporting the restoration and conservation of natliving landscapes & livelihoods across  the Baviaanskloof Mega-Reserve.

We are looking for someone with the spirit of adventure and organizational skills to help with coordinating the village. Main activities:

  • Ensure that accommodation & office is well maintained;
  • Overseen that vehicles use is scheduled, maintained and logsheets are well managed;
  • Support lapa events organization;
  • Support general leisure activities;
  • Assist in garden maintenance planning;
  • Propose and implement actions in the village favouring sustainability;
  • Support the construction of ablutions next to the lapa.
