EarthCollective on October 14, 2008 with 0 CommentsBarcelona (ES): A number of the EarthCollective team have returned from a successful trip to the IUCN World Conservation Congress held between the 5th – 14th October in Barcelona, Spain. The three major EarthCollective initiatives were represented – CVNI; eyes4earth & PRESENCE by Bas Verschuuren, Matthew Zylstra and Dieter Van den Broeck respectively. Each were involved in delivering a number presentations during workshops or assisting and chairing workshops with related themes. Such themes included: Indigenous Dialogues, Mapping & Guidelines related to Sacred Natural Sites; Saving Spiritual Capital; Valuing, Mapping & Marketing Ecosystem Services; and Restoring Landscapes & ‘Natural Capital’. EarthCollective also took advantage to participate in a number of “Learning Opportunities” such as Community Mapping & Participatory Video and a Google Earth workshop. Naturally, there were plenty of opportunities to network, exchange ideas, share experiences, catch-up with old acquaintances as well as make new friends. Thanks must go to IUCN for organising a diverse and inspiring congress.
